Dental Implants

Benefits of Dental Implants?

Dental implants provide tooth replacement solutions for patients missing one, multiple, or all teeth.  They are actually artificial tooth “root replacements” and are a good option for patients in good general health who have lost a tooth due to periodontal disease, root fracture, non-restorable decay, accident, or trauma.  Implants help our patients regain the ability to eat virtually anything and allow them to speak and smile with confidence.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are “titanium screw fixtures” that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing.  The bone itself integrates and bonds with the titanium creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth.  Implants also help preserve facial structure and contour by preventing bone deterioration when teeth are missing.

Dental implant supported teeth are typically screw retained or cemented to the implant fixtures.  Patients frequently comment on their natural feel and appearance.  Dental implants are changing the way people live.  With them, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh, and enjoy life!

Considerations

Again, dental implants can be utilized in a number of ways to replace missing teeth:  single tooth replacement, multiple teeth replacement by fixed bridge between implants, replacement of an entire arch of missing teeth (where teeth are “fixed” in the mouth) or they can also be used to stabilize and support removable dentures (“overdenture appliance”).

Implants do have the advantage of not being susceptible to decay.  Regular brushing, flossing along with professional dental cleanings are recommended to ensure long term health and function of the implants.
